CMU regularly delivers training sessions for teams at music companies and the members of music industry organisations. Clients can pick from a selection of existing sessions or the CMU team can create bespoke seminars, workshops or other training materials to meet their specific needs.




PATHWAYS INTO MUSIC | INFO
The Pathways Into Music Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation launched by CMU to build connections between music education and the music industry, to support music educators around the UK, and to help early-career music-makers plan their personal pathways into music.




ARTIST PATHWAY PROGRAMME | INFO
CMU’s Pathways Into Music Foundation has developed a training and mentoring scheme for DIY Phase artists. This has been delivered in partnership with music charity Help Musicians via its Business Accelerator and Business Skills programmes, and as part of the MOBO Unsung initiative.

CMU’s Pathways Into Music Foundation is currently developing a professional development programme for music educators that will provide teachers, tutors, lecturers and other people supporting young music-makers with access to the latest insights about music careers and the music business.

CMU MD Chris Cooke regularly guest lectures at colleges and universities, and for music industry organisations and events, providing engaging and interactive beginner guides to different aspects of the music business. Colleges include BIMM, ICMP, NFTS and Loughborough University.

CMU has enjoyed a long-term partnership with UD, which educates, empowers and creates life opportunities for young people inspired by the sounds, words and rhythms of black music culture. We deliver workshops and host panels as part of UD’s Industry Takeover and Incubator programmes.

UnLimited Media MD Chris Cooke regularly speaks and presents about the music, media and communication industries, and copyright, media and constitutional law – as well as moderating panels and discussions on all those topics – at conferences and events all over the world.




MMF TRAINING | INFO
CMU delivers ‘Mechanics Of Music Management’, a training programme offered by the UK’s Music Managers Forum. Over six seminars, it puts the spotlight on how artist businesses work, the role of the manager, and the artist’s copyright and fanbase revenue streams.




BPI TRAINING | INFO
CMU delivers a series of webinars as part of the training programme of the BPI, the trade body that represents the UK’s recorded music industry. Among other things, the sessions cover music revenues, music rights, music marketing, collective licensing, digital trends, data and sync.




DISSECTING THE DIGITAL DOLLAR | INFO
CMU has been working with the UK’s Music Managers Forum since 2015 on the ‘Digital Dollar’ project, helping managers, artists and songwriters navigate and understand how music streaming works, and all the various debates about the digital music business.




COUNCIL OF MUSIC MAKERS | WEBSITE
UnLimited Media MD Chris Cooke consults for the UK’s Council Of Music Makers – which brings together organisations representing artists, musicians, songwriters, producers and their managers – in particular working with CMM on the government-instigated projects around the economics of streaming.




IMPALA ONE STEP AHEAD | INFO
CMU works with IMPALA – the pan-European organisation for the independent music community – to deliver One Step Ahead, providing briefings, reports and webinars to enable independent music businesses stay one step ahead on all things digital.




MUSIC COPYRIGHT EXPLAINED | INFO
In 2021, CMU was commissioned by the UK’s Intellectual Property Office to produce ‘Music Copyright Explained’, a free guide aimed at music-makers and other creators explaining the ins and outs of music copyright, which can be downloaded as a PDF or accessed via a bespoke website.




BUILDING TRUST | INFO
In 2021, CMU teamed up with Friend MTS – a company dedicated to innovation in content and platform security – to produce two white papers reviewing the responsibilities of digital companies regarding copyright infringement and harmful content distributed on their platforms.




DISTRIBUTION REVOLUTION | INFO
In 2019, CMU was commissioned by the UK’s Association Of Independent Music to produce ‘Distribution Revolution’, a major report exploring how the role of the music distributor has evolved and the distribution options now available to independent labels and artists.




PERFORMER PAYMENTS | INFO
In 2021, CMU was commissioned by the PayPerformers campaign to produce a practical guide to how revenues generated from streaming services in both the audio-visual and music sectors are currently shared with actors, musicians and other performers in markets across Europe.




CMU AT VILL VILL VEST | WEBSITE
CMU presents sessions as part of the delegate programme at the Vill Vill Vest showcase festival in Bergen, Norway each year. These include speed briefings and lively panel discussions putting the spotlight on the latest trends and debates in the music business.




GREAT ESCAPE CONFERENCE | WEBSITE
The CMU team delivered twelve editions of The Great Escape Conference – part of the UK’s leading new talent showcase festival – programming core conference strands, curating keynote conversations, and developing and running the Elevate professional development programme.




TAYLOR BENNETT FOUNDATION | WEBSITE
UnLimited Media helped launch the Taylor Bennett Foundation, an award winning charity which promotes and enables more ethnic diversity in the communications sector. We developed and delivered training sessions, and supported the charity’s logistics and marketing, throughout its first decade.
