Copyright Insights

At UnLimited Media we’re leading experts on all matters relating to copyright. We help creators, rights owners, licensees and policy makers understand how copyright works, and how new technologies impact on the copyright framework.

Through CMU, we cover key developments, debates and disputes in music copyright and music licensing across the world. Through TW Backstage, we also report on copyright and performer rights in the context of the wider cultural industries.

Via the CMU consultancy, we produced the Music Copyright Explained guide for the UK’s Intellectual Property Office. We researched how music streaming works from a rights and royalties perspective for the Music Managers Forum.

We advise the Council Of Music Makers on their projects and campaigns around copyright and performer rights. We regularly run copyright training sessions – and have delivered sessions for the MMF, BPI, FAC, Musicians’ Union, Sony Music, SoundCloud, ATC Management, Wildlife Entertainment and many more.

Beyond our media, we also monitor the wider copyright industries, reviewing conventions and trends in copyright deals in different sectors, and tracking key legal cases and legislative reforms impacting on copyright in the UK, US, EU and beyond.

We are particularly known for our ability to explain complex copyright matters in a simple and user-friendly way, and for creating and presenting compelling and entertaining content and courses on copyright law and the copyright business.

You and your company can access and utilise this knowledge via our copyright training and consultancy services. We offer a number of online masterclasses and in-house training courses specifically on music copyright via CMU.

We also have off-the-shelf courses that work for any copyright business or any company that utilises copyright-protected works – which are outlined below – plus we can develop bespoke sessions on any copyright topic.

UnLimited Media’s Chris Cooke also has a more informal lecture on the history and fundamentals of copyright called ‘It Began With Queen Anne’ which can be delivered at conferences as well as industry or cultural events.
